Petra Martin will be performing Sunday, February 18, at 5:30 PM on the MAJF Club Stage. Raised in Freeport, NY, Petra Martin is one to pay close attention to. Her sultry voice encapsulates raw emotion blended with life experiences and pure talent. It is the fusion of harmonious melodies blanketed in smooth velvet… which births a refreshing twist of jazz standards, and soul-snatching gospel hymns mixed with pop and R&B classics.
With just one listen to Ms. Martin’s silky belted tunes, you will completely be engulfed within her sound and lose yourself under her bluesy spell. “I like artists that move me,” says Petra of her love and passion for heartfelt music. “I’m very transparent… I’m like a storyteller with [my] music. It’s therapeutic… like a therapy session. ” What I love about music is that it has no racial barriers…. It brings people together. I like to look out [into the audience] and regardless of racial background, they’re just there for the music. It’s something that they like. It makes them happy. Petra has lent her vocals to perform at an array of eclectic events in and around the DC metropolitan area and beyond, such as The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, BlackRock Center for The Arts, the Beach Urban Dance Classic, Alice’s Jazz & Cultural Society, functions for the Susan G. Komen Foundation of the local DC chapter; singing the national anthem at the prestigious annual Washington International Horse Show at Capital One Arena (Washington, DC) and the promotion ceremony for the United States Navy; performs as a guest vocalist at JoJo Restaurant & Bar (Washington, DC) and Twins Jazz (Washington, DC); many galas for non-profit organizations in Washington.
